Channel (definition): End-to-end Transmission between two points at which application-specific equipment is connected.
The CAT 6 channel test configuration is to be used by system designers and users of data communication systems to verfy the performance of the overall CAT 6 channel. The CAT 6 channel includes up to 90m (295 ft.) of CAT 6 horizontal cable, a CAT 6 patch cord, a CAT 6 telecommunications room. The total length of CAT 6 patch cords in the work area shall not exceed 10m (33 ft.). The connections to the equipment at each end of the channel are not included in the channel definition. The channel definition does not apply to those cases where the horizontal cabling is cross-connected to the backbone cabling. (see Figure 1).
